Introduction

Introduction to pastels, tips and techniques

Session 1

Using the pre-outlined velour paper, we start with the underpainting, using soft pastels to create colour and tonal values, to enrich the completed painting.

Session 2

Begin learning techniques on defining fur texture using hard pastels.  Establish shadows and highlights

Session 3

Refining the detail, building up layers of fur texture using increasingly finer strokes with hard pastels.  Start to feel the fur!

Session 4

Eyes and noses.  Learn how to get the wet nose look, and create life and soul in the eyes.  Time to review your painting with Vic, as you finish those fine details.

2 DAY WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

The 2 day workshop differs from the one day workshop in the following ways:

• Paintings will be larger in size

• Backgrounds and foregrounds will be far more developed

• The painting may incorporate part or all of the body - not just the head, and therefore the workshop will include tips and techniques for body, fur, feet etc

• Because the 2 day workshop allows more time painting, more layers of pastel can be applied to create even more realistic fur textures than the 1 day workshops allows.

• Finally, the finished piece will be your unique painting, produced with group and individual tuition from start to finish.

• All the above, but you will be drawing the subject out from scratch!
